The wild and graceful Ghalia Benali is one of the musical surprises to emerge from the Arab world at the turn of the millennium. A successful actress, she played a leading role in the film "La saison des hommes", crafted graphical designer and talented singer, composer and songwriter: Ghalia Benali is a multitalent! Her fluid voice and compositions absorb a full circle of wide influences from Arabic folk and jazz traditions to contemporary chillout and Indian Classical music. Always surprising and restless by nature, Ghalia seems to shift seamlessly between genres and cultural traditions with an individuality devoid of fears. She uses classical Arab language, the language of alchemy, where a word reveals its numerous sides while being performed and interpreted to perfection by this great singer. Moving and amazing audiences and critics around the world. Ghalia sings esoteric verbs with her sensual voice, moves the world while she dances and designs visuals. Ghalia's current projects include: "Romeo & Leila: a ReOriental Fairytale" featuring occidental and oriental classical musicians and "Ghalia sings Om Kalthoum": a rare and universally praised rendition of the great Egyptian singer Om Kalthoum. Her albums include Wild Harissa (2001) Romeo & Leila (2006 and re-edition in 2011) Al Palna (2008) and she had done various appearances as a guest singer, including performances with Mad Professor and Nicola Conte. Ghalia describes her new project as "Neo-Tarab Arab soul, sometimes festive but never profane, occasionally romantic and ecclectic, even classical and by chance wild and over the top - a passport to many cultures, a microcosmos that merges the Arab musical legacy into something new". Ghalia is currently recording and co-producing her new album and will be performing all over the planet after her latest release in spring 2012. In season 12/13 Ghalia will be touring theatres all over Europe with her own theatrical interpretation of her self-written ReOriental Fairytale: "Romeo & Leila".
