Hailing from the tiny kingdom of Bahrain, Smouldering In Forgotten (SIF) is an extreme metal band aspiring to make its mark in the Middle Eastern metal scene. In 2005, the metal scene in Bahrain consisted almost entirely of cover bands and very few played extreme metal. Voidhanger and Mardus, friends and both huge fans of extreme metal, decided that a change was long overdue. First, they wanted to play fast and aggressive music, and more importantly, they wanted to write their own stuff. They started practicing, and eventually hammered out a few tracks that best represented their vision, although the band was still missing a drummer, they were not to be dissuaded. They recorded the tracks at Mardus' house and used a drum machine in place of live drums. In early 2006, the fruits of their efforts came in the form of their first demo, "The Bonfire of the Apocalypse." It was self-released, and though there were only a limited number of prints, the demo was very well-received in Bahrain and sold very quickly. In 2008, the trio of Voidhanger, Mardus and Busac got back to work and finished recording the music for ten new songs. SIF decided to do something different with this album. A conversation with their friend Hammers from local band Extinction Imminent stimulated the idea of releasing a concept album. SIF joined forces with Hammers and started working on the story structure and lyrics. Unfortunately, progress was very slow because everyone involved had day jobs and time to work on the album was very scarce. However, the band trudged on and over the course of 2009, the vocals were recorded and the album "I, Devourer" was completed.
